While it is great to see 4 new people on the committee it is disappointing to note that they are all from the seniors, in fact the only person from the juniors to attend was Darcy.
This year we are needing some input from the juniors for coordination and representation on the committee. Without this our numbers will drop as people become frustrated with the lack of direction.
As I mentioned in my report Amy Robyn and I can not continue this year as we did last as it is too exhausting.
Can I suggest a group of you get together to form a junior committee which gives you flexibility but still achieves the goals needed. This committee can then report to the clubs elected committee and ensure the Juniors do not get left out of the big picture.
  • Things that need to be done.
  • Recruitment of players
  • Field set up
  • Field pack up
  • Update results and info to Web site convener
  • Attend meetings
  • Ensure equipment is up to date
  • Nominate Match Day Manager- applies to U13's and over
  • Note and action parents grievances
  • Plan some mid year functions for club bonding
  • Gather lists for trophies at the end of the season and organise Junior presentation
These things are all easier with a group of people. Last season the Seniors started their own committee which meets 1 night a month after training for a drink and plans the next month, it does not take long and they involved about 6 key people.
This is essential for the survival of the club so please get on board, we can have some fun too.

AGM Address

Good evening everyone and welcome

This year we as a club need to focus on building our committee numbers so we survive. Much focus was placed on player numbers and coaching last year and the core of the club has diminished to minimal numbers which has placed too much pressure on individuals.
The only way to remedy this is to increase numbers in the committee and support team. This is my goal for this season but I obviously need people to come forward to achieve this.

Amy and I will not be standing for re-election next year and I hope this year can be a smooth changing of the guard and development of a strong committee. Amy will have completed 5 years as club Secretary and myself 3 years as President. This does not mean we will not assist in one role or another at the club in 2011 but my work commitments and our private life will not permit the current commitment needed to do this great club justice.

  • Our clubs location lends itself to fund raising options outside rugby but for this we need organisers who may not necessarily work for nothing but without the personnel these opportunities go begging.
  • This year we have built a store shed which will alleviate the issues of space throughout the club. The next item I would like to see done is a referb of the bar and coldroom area to remove the pinch point and increase functionality. We have the funds but this will not eventuate without someone to captain it.
  • The club is in need of maintenance to prevent it from aging beyond appeal; again we need someone to take on this role.
  • We run many functions at the club which raise over $1000 at a time, they need coordinating and organising. Currently this is done between Robyn, Amy and myself, this can not continue, we need a functions coordinator.

All this said the club has enjoyed unprecedented success this year both on the field and financially. We have shown the Rugby community that we are a club on the march and I feel we have lifted the culture of Rugby on the coast, however we need to now build on that success and repeat it to prove it was not a one off. Having a strong committed committee is now extremely important to achieve this.

I would like to see the numbers in our Juniors increase and aim to have no gaps greater than 1 year at the club. This becomes critical at under 15’s and starts to affect the senior teams in later years. It takes lots of persistence and planning to do this, many people will make this work.
I would like to maintain our success with Seniors which should attract Juniors to the club. I would like the Seniors and Juniors to mingle more this year which is why we need to make Thursday night trainings work.

This year we are running the Seniors with new design Jerseys with an aim to have the same for all Junior teams 2011. This decision is purely financial as the existing Junior jerseys are currently in good repair. All Juniors will be issued this year with a club shirt which we developed last season.

This club has so much untouched potential and it is a crime if we don’t grab it and run with it. I would like to know my replacement by July so we can start a transition ready for 2011.
